A Big Deal
Illustration, Luxury packaging
A Big Deal is a conceptual project where I created a luxury deck of cards for Nottcutt’s Garden Centre. The design draws it's main inspiration from the company’s rich family heritage, which dates back to the 18th century. From this, Each card was meticulously hand-illustrated, taking cues from the intricate patterns of 18th-century flocked wallpaper.

The target audience for this deck of cards is a high-end demographic, one that would typically frequent a Notcutt’s garden centre. It was crucial that the cards exude a sense of luxury, not only to appeal to this audience but also to reflect the 18th-century design influences, which embraced maximalism and connected to the company’s heritage.

Each number on the card features a unique illustration, surrounded in a gold foil boarder, with additional flourishes tailored to the suit it belongs to, making it a fully functional deck. To enhance the luxury of the set, the backs of the cards feature an identical gold pattern, designed to showcase the initials "RCP," representing Rodger Crompton Notcutt, the founder of Notcutt’s. All of this is housed in a lined, green box with a gold-patterned wrap, making the cards not only a decorative item but also a tribute to the family’s heritage.
