Romance Isn't Dead

I had the opportunity to take part in a freelance project to create my own beer can design for a limited-edition pale ale in collaboration with the University of the Arts. The winning design will be printed on the cans, beer kegs, and featured in the brewery in Diss.

Ampersand Brewery is a small, independent brewery based in Diss, passionate about crafting great beer while embracing unique flavour combinations. We were given a loose brief to design a beer can based on the name ‘Romance Isn’t Dead'.

For my design, I utilised my illustrative skillset to create a beer wrap pattern inspired by the unique flavour profile of the pale being created which consists of Citra, strawberry, hopp, and Strata. My colour palette was also reflected from these flavour elements.

The insight that influenced my designs was based on the fact; there are an estimated 35,000 species of animals known to form life-long partnerships. More specifically, many variety’s of Birds share a life long bonds, becoming ‘Partners for Life’. This in itself is a celebration that romance goes beyond just humans and is infact, not dead. As well as a can wrap design, i pushed myself further with this competiton and have created a keg label and poster which shows the adaptivity of my illlustratios into different outcomes.

This brief truly allowed me to showcase my passion for pattern design and illustration into a potentually real life outcome which is really exciting.I thoroughly enjoyed the creative process of bringing this concept to life.
